Albert Bierstadt was a German American painter, who starting from 1859, joined several journeys of the westward expansion to paint the land in it's wild untamed beauty. He was also part of the second generation of the Hudson River School, who were known for their detailed landscape paintings with glowing light.
Among the Sierra Nevada is a painting of the Sierra Nevada mountain range in California. Funny enough, he painted it while at his studio in Rome, as a result, many who saw it were inspired to visit California and see the mountains themselves.
